Weather Shield Marks 60th Anniversary with Months of Special Events

In 1955, Edward "Lee" Schield had the vision and determination to make and sell doors and windows he assembled in his garage in Medford, Wis. Sixty years later, three generations of the Schield family and all the employees of Weather Shield^® Windows & Doors celebrate those humble beginnings and the company’s history of innovation that has resulted in it becoming one of the nation's leading window and door manufacturers.

“Weather Shield has grown these past 60 years by always anticipating the industry’s needs and introducing new technology and options to meet those needs,” said Mark Schield, president of Weather Shield. “Our constant pursuit of innovation, dedication to quality and strong partnerships with our customers in the building industry have helped us reach this milestone anniversary and will help propel us forward in the years ahead.”

Mark Schield, and his brother Kevin, who serves as executive vice president of the company, represent the second generation of the Schield family to lead the company. Kevin’s son, Chris, is Weather Shield's director of product marketing. Lee Schield remains involved in day-to-day operations and is an active member of the board. 

In honor of its 60th anniversary, Weather Shield is hosting and participating in many events throughout Central Wisconsin, including its 60 Years Strong 5K, all-employee picnic, parades in six communities in the area, hosting free movie events and volunteering in Ladysmith, Medford and Park Falls.

Weather Shield’s 60 Years Strong 5K
Weather Shield will host a timed 5K race in Medford on Thursday, Aug. 13, starting at Medford City Park at 5:30 p.m. Held in conjunction with Medford’s Second Annual Park Fest, there will be activities for families – runners and non-runners alike – music and food. 60th Anniversary Picnic
The 60th Anniversary Picnic for employees and their families on Saturday, July 25, will include games and rides for every age, including face painting, a duck pond, fishing for prizes, a bounce house, obstacle course, train, and super slide for kids. Sketches by caricature artists, bocce ball, bean bag toss, giant Jenga, giant Kerplunk and putting greens will keep everyone entertained. Families can get their pictures taken by fire trucks, and register for door prizes and raffles. 

Impacting the Community
Weather Shield employees participated in Ladysmith’s “Earth Day” on May 27. Other employees will volunteer for the Park Falls’ Community Cleanup on Sept. 22, “Make a Difference Day” in Medford on Oct. 24. 

Parades Galore
Through community parades in and around Medford, Weather Shield will spread the news of its 60th anniversary. Weather Shield’s branded semis will be in the following parades: 
•    Sunday, July 19 – Ladysmith’s Mardi Gras parade
•    Sunday, Aug. 2 – Park Falls’ Flambeau Rama parade
•    Sunday, Aug. 9 – Rib Lake’s Ice Age Days parade
•    Saturday, Sept. 5 – Prentice Progress Days parade
•    Sunday, Sept. 13 – Gilman Fall Festival parade
•    Sunday, Oct. 25 – Medford’s Harvest Days parade

Free movie events
Residents in the communities where Weather Shield has manufacturing facilities can enjoy a free movie at a community movie theater courtesy of Weather Shield. On Saturday, Aug. 15, the free movie will be shown at Medford’s Broadway Theater and the Park Theater in Park Falls. The date for the movie at Ladysmith’s Miner Theater will be announced soon. The movies to be shown will be announced via the company’s Facebook page.
