Weather Shield to Introduce New Contemporary Collection Products and Enhancements at 2016 Builders’ Show

11/13/2015

Weather Shield Windows & Doors will highlight several new Contemporary Collection products and enhancements at the 2016 International Builders’ Show in January. Building on the Collection’s already-sleek lines, the company will showcase new custom-crafted hardware, an exterior flush frame for window units, a 3-1/4” bottom rail on hinged, bi-fold and sliding doors, and a range of chic interior and exterior finishes for the aluminum-clad product line. The Contemporary Collection, which launched early in 2015, has been popular with architects, custom builders, designers and homeowners for its narrow-profile frames, energy efficiency and thermal performance, European-style hardware, and extensive options.

“The Contemporary Collection products now have an even greater resemblance to commercial steel and aluminum windows, which have strong appeal among the architectural and design community and are driving the modern-style products in today’s residential fenestration market,” said Dave Koester, brand manager for Weather Shield Windows & Doors. “From the sightlines to the finishes and hardware, we’ve considered every element of the product line’s design to achieve a true contemporary, minimalistic appearance.”

Flush Frame Design Minimizes Exterior ProfileFlush_Frame-sm.jpg
One of the enhancements made to Contemporary Collection windows is a new exterior flush frame design, which puts the sash and frame on the same plain, and minimizes the exterior profile. The traditional shadow-line frame projects about an inch further than the sash and the home’s exterior surface, adding depth and dimension to the building’s façade. The new flush frame design was developed based on feedback from architects and designers specializing in modern-style architecture.

Custom-Designed Hardware Delivers Contemporary Authenticity
Weather Shield worked closely with its hardware manufacturer, Roto-Frank of America, to develop new casement, and awning hardware that has squared-off, clean lines consistent with the Contemporary Collection aesthetics.

“Weather Shield was intent on developing true-to-style hardware for its Contemporary Collection,” said David Gilson, business manager for Roto-Frank. “We sought input from architects and designers throughout our design process to ensure authenticity and acceptance by those who specialize in modern-style architecture. This sleek new hardware will debut on Weather Shield products in January at the Builders’ Show.”

In addition to the new style hardware, hardware is now available in black as well as the previously offered white, tan, brushed nickel and rustic bronze.

Stylish Finishes Mirror Those of Steel Windows
To achieve the look of steel windows, Weather Shield offers lustrous interior and exterior finishes important to the aesthetic of custom homes, and only available on the Contemporary Collection. Wood interiors can be finished in an ultra-smooth enamel coating that mimics the look of aluminum or steel. Choose from black, white, or a variety of standard colors, designer colors or custom color matching. The exterior aluminum cladding can be finished in a paint color from the full palette of standard, designer and custom colors, or one of eight anodized finishes or metallic paint finishes of basic copper, warm silver, antique silver and espresso.

3-1/4” Bottom Rail Maximizes Glass on Contemporary Collection Doors
The Contemporary Collection is available in push-out and crank-out casement, awning, direct set and 90-degree corner windows, and an impressive selection of bi-fold, hinged and sliding doors that can accommodate openings up to 40’ wide and 10’ tall. IBS attendees will notice the doors have a slimmed-down 3-1/4” stile and rail that allow for maximum glass relative to the 5-1/4” stiles found on the company’s traditional product lines.

Excellent Energy Efficiency and Thermal Performance
The casement and awning units in the Contemporary Collection feature TriCore™ frame technology, which combines highly moisture-resistant materials, a fusion-welded sub frame, and thick, multi-chamber components to achieve new levels of energy efficiency and thermal performance. All Weather Shield products are available with energy-efficient glazing choices, such as double pane options of Zo-e-shield 5, Zo-e-shield 5 Extreme, and the triple-pane Zo-e-shield 7, and Zo-e-shield SafeGuard certified.
